Akdeniz Restaurant – situated in the heart of Ghala, within a newly opened hotel, the Centara Muscat.
You feel the Turkish vibes emanating from the place before you even enter, thanks to the glass wall facing the entrance, which gives you a sneak into the cosy atmosphere awaiting to welcome you.
The restaurant gives you the option to dine outdoors as well as indoors, with a decent arrangement either way. Although, given the weather of Muscat most months and the location of the hotel, I don’t think outdoors would be a popular choice.
The indoors exhibits a pretty, traditional set up that makes your insides warm and fuzzy. The food promises to excite your taste buds with a blend of delicious Turkish flavours.
At the food tasting event that I was invited to, myself and my fellow guests were served with the following menu.
The food was well presented and served by friendly, well informed staff. I have posted a video of the food on my Instagram, which you can check out by clicking here.
The Pita bread was a little tough for my liking and not as soft as expected. The Labneh and Honey Pide was delicious, however, the Hummus it was served with didn’t taste like hummus at all. I am a fan of hummus, like the ‘I can have it all day’ kind, so that was disappointing.
Next up were Chicken Wings in BBQ sauce. I struggled to find the BBQ sauce, if I’m completely honest, but other than that, it tasted pleasant.
Our main course servings were Chicken Shish Taouk, Lamb Kofta and Chicken Satay in peanut sauce. As with the chicken wings, there was a major lack in the sauce department in the chicken satay. The lamb and shish taouk were delicious, well done and had great flavours.
Desserts for the night were Triple Caramel Cream and Mango rice pudding. Neither were exceptional, unfortunately.
The overall ambience was pleasant. However, being a Turkish and Arabian food enthusiast, the food did let me down a tad bit.
Nonetheless, the event was well organized and offered props for pictures. It was a lovely evening spent with like-minded, creative social media personalities with a taste for fine dining.
I do know that the Centara Muscat Hotel will be opening a rooftop restaurant as well, called The Roof. I have high expectations from that and hopefully that can prove to be the amenity of the hotel as far as food is concerned.

Until next time, foodies!
